Mountain Safety Council Expresses Condolences

New Zealand Mountain Safety Council Executive Director Darryl Carpenter expressed his condolences at the loss of Chief Executive of Te Papa, Dr Seddon Bennington and tramping companion Marcella Jackson in the Tararua Ranges this week

“We are very saddened by the loss of these trampers. Dr Bennington had a fondness for the outdoors. Our thoughts and sympathies are with his family and friends.

“We offer our support to those who knew both Dr Bennington and Marcella Jackson. In due course there will be a time to reflect on what occurred in this incident and ensure we understand what, if any, lessons can be learnt for the future.

“The Mountain Safety Council is committed to ensure any review recommendations are incorporated into ongoing outdoor safety education and practice,” said Mr Carpenter.
