More reason than ever for Canterbury people to insulate their homes
The government’s budget announcement of even better assistance with home insulation is great news for Canterbury people,
says Environment Canterbury air portfolio chair, Cr Jo Kane.
“Insulation is the key to warmer, drier homes, especially in Canterbury where winters are cold and damp and where much
of the housing stock is old and poorly insulated. Environment Canterbury is committed to healthier homes and improving
air quality right across the region,” says Cr Kane.
“The average home loses heat through floors, walls, windows, ceiling and up the chimney. Insulation under the floor and
in the ceiling space makes the most difference, reducing heat loss significantly, making homes warmer, drier, cheaper to
heat and more energy efficient.
“The new government funding is the perfect complement to our own Clean Heat Project which already offers financial
assistance for insulation and conversion to cleaner forms of heating to people reliant on open fires or older,
non-compliant log burners in Christchurch, Timaru, Ashburton, Rangiora and Kaiapoi. The Clean Heat Project combines
insulation as well as clean heating.
