Manukau Mayor to talk ‘Super City’ at public meetings
Manukau Mayor Len Brown is giving the Manukau community a chance to have their say on the Royal Commission’s recommendations on Auckland governance at public meetings planned for next week.
The Royal Commission report recommends that Auckland effectively becomes a “Super City”.
“Ensuring our communities speak up about what they want has always been important, but it is more imperative now,” says Mr Brown.
“I am disappointed the Commission’s recommendations do not adequately reflect the specific needs of the different communities and I believe it’s important that we support the retention of local representation throughout the region.
Mr Brown will attend three public meetings in Papatoetoe, Half Moon Bay and Manurewa on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.
“Many residents will have heard the words “Super City” in conversation, but they may not realise the significance of the changes and what it will mean for them,” he says.
“The meetings are a chance for council to give some feedback to the community on what the Commission’s recommendations are and what they could mean for Manukau City.
“I want to hear from the community on how we move forward and would like to receive feedback and thoughts on this very important issue.”
Public Meetings on Super City:
Monday 6 April 2009: 6pm, Papatoetoe Town Hall, St.George Street
Wednesday 8 April 2009: 7pm, Residents and Ratepayers Meeting, Bucklands Beach Yacht Club, Ara-Tai, Half Moon Bay
