Growth In Conference Numbers In Taupo
Destination Lake Taupo today announced a positive survey result for the conference market.
All major conference venues in the region collate conference statistics on a quarterly basis, and these statistics are fed into a national survey.
Compared to the same quarter last year (July to September), Taupo has shown an increase in the number of two-day-plus conferences, and the number of conference days.
Manager of the Lake Taupo Convention Bureau, Di Christie, says that these statistics show favourable continual growth in the conference sector for the district.
“Although the total number of delegates has stayed about the same, the great news is that over the past year we have had a substantial increase in single day conferences,” said Ms Christie.
“The coming year is looking positive with a number of bids being placed for major national conferences to be held here in Taupo,” said Ms Christie.
On a national level, the Lake Taupo region hosts 7% of all multiple day conferences in New Zealand.
“Taupo often secures multiple day conferences ahead of Queenstown, Rotorua & Manawatu,” said Ms Christie. “Obviously, Auckland, Wellington & Christchurch gain a far bigger share of the market, but Taupo continues to represent well in this sector of the tourism market.”
