Police working on Operation Dallington continue to be very pleased with the level of information coming from the public.
Detective inspector Greg Williams says people have given information about possible sightings of Mellory and general
movements of people and vehicles in and around Peterborough and Manchester Street.
"One of the things we do know is that there were a number of potential clients who were in and around that area at the
critical time. We would like these people to contact us."
"We have information about a male of Indian descent who has been a client of Mellory's. He drives a white vehicle
described a being like a Honda and arrived there at around 10.15 pm.
There is also a sighting of a dark blue or black four wheel drive with tinted windows and highly polished wheels that
was seen at about 10.30 p.m.
"We need to speak to these people. I can assure anyone who comes forward that they can speak with us in confidence."
"We know there were other vehicles in and around there at the same time. I expect to be able to release more information
on these vehicles at a later date," Mr Williams said.
The Police profiling unit based in Auckland is working to compare this case with other cases including comparing the
injuries which Mellory has sustained.
"This might give us a better picture of what type of weapon was used to cause the head injuries," Mr Williams said.
Work continues with the cell phone found in Mellory's bag. It has been sent to the ECL in Wellington and police are
talking to the service provider to determine if it is possible to tell whether it had been turned off before it got wet
and stopped working.
Mr Williams says initial ESR results have been given to police. Further profiling is required and once completed may
give police vital information with which to identify the person responsible or at the very least be able to eliminate
people.
