Kapiti Council Puts the Boot into Santa’s Team
Christmas spirit was in short supply at a meeting of the Kapiti Coast District Council when several Santa’s were ejected from the building today by the Mayor and Chief Executive, according to Kapiti Independent News.
The Santa’s, led by Community Board Vice Chair Dale Evans, arrived before a regular Council meeting with Xmas presents of bottled water. But Mayor Jenny Rowan and the Kapiti CEO, Pat Dougherty, weren’t having any of the Christmas spirit.
The Kapiti Independent News Chief Reporter says Mr Evans and his merry band were ambushed by Ms Rowan and Mr Dougherty as they were half way up the stairs to Council Chamber.
Mr Evans was asked to leave the building but he stressed his democratic right to attend the meeting, and went into the Chamber with his team.
Mayor Rowan then asked the group to leave the chamber and adjourned the meeting.
Police were called in by Ms Rowan to eject the Santa’s – but the group left quietly after chatting with two police officers.
