Funding set down for Lake Tekapo Regional Park.
Lake Tekapo Regional Park is set to be funded from a mix of 60% regional rate and 40% targeted fixed rate levied on the Timaru and Mackenzie districts from 2009 to 2014.
Environment Canterbury’s southern committee discussed the funding options at its meeting on December 4 in Timaru. The
recommendation was adopted by ECan’s council on December 11.
“There has always been funding from ECan through the general rate for the park, which is a soil conservation area, and
that will not change,” says ECan South Canterbury councillor Bronwen Murray
Cr Murray says that the decision will be open to public consultation through ECan’s 2009-19 Long Term Council Community
Plan (LTCCP).
“The funding arrangement for the regional park is very much a joint effort between the various parties.”
“Meridian Energy has contributed funds to the Lake Tekapo Recreational Reserve Incorporated Society for the purchase of
tools and equipment, and recognition must be given to society members, local residents and the district councils who
also play a key role in maintaining the park,” she says.
