Bayleys ‘head’ office goes bald for charity
Managers and staff at leading real estate company Bayleys shaved their heads at the staff Christmas party as part of a festive season stunt to raise money for a good cause - netting more than $16,000 for the Child Cancer Foundation.
Bayleys head honcho Mike Bayley ‘heads up’ the charity shaving challenge.
Bayleys ‘head men’ John Bayley, Mike Bayley and Chris Bayley – along with 24 staff members - lined up in the barber’s chair at the Christmas party recently, held at the Bayleys Maritime Square office, to have their heads shaved.
Managing director Mike Bayley led the challenge, telling staff that Bayley Corporation would donate $200 to the cancer charity for every male staff member who participated in the shearing experience, and $5,000 for any female staff member who stepped up to the barber’s plate.
Mike Bayley said: “In addition to our long-standing sponsorship of Guide Dog Services throughout the year, we have a company tradition of raising additional funds for another charity as part of the head office company Christmas party.
“This year, our Christmas party was a corporate-family barbeque, and for a bit of fun we decided some of the entertainment would include encouraging staff to have their heads shaved for charity. We were pleased to see so many people join in the spirit.”
A number of other staff members made personal donations to the charity in the days following the party, he said.
Bayleys’ sales secretary Louise Worsp was the only woman who took the challenge - even turning down Mike Bayley’s offer of a fancy $1,000 wig to cover her shorn locks, and asking for that money go to the charity as well… raising a total of $6,000 for her bravery as a result.
Ms Worsp said: “We raised a huge amount of money on the night, and it was just fantastic to be part of the event. I wouldn’t mind a little more plumage, but it will grow back. It’s a way of showing support to the young children with this terrible illness, and giving something to those not so fortunate in our society.”
