Road Safety Message For Basin Reserve Christmas Carols Eventgoers

People heading to this Saturday night's Christmas Carols at the Basin Reserve in Wellington are urged to take care where
they park and how they cross the roads.
Senior Sergeant Richard Hocken, Wellington Police Strategic Traffic Unit, expects there will be traffic and pedestrian
congestion around the Basin Reserve both before and after the popular family carol service.
Gates open at 5.30pm, warm-up entertainment starts at 7pm and the carol service itself runs from 8pm to 10pm.
If you're heading by car to the event, make sure you choose your park wisely as vehicles left in no parking zones will
be towed. Both Wellington College and Mt Cook Schools are offering car parking facilities for a small charge.
Pedestrians are encouraged to be safety conscious; to look before they cross the roads, obey the traffic signals or
follow the directions of police officers.
"We expect it to be really busy when people leave the Basin after the carols have finished," Senior Sergeant Hocken
said. "We will have patrols in the area and may need from time to time to put traffic stops in place to get the crowds
safely across the roads.
"With some patience and cooperation from everyone then people should have a great night."
