Foot access to Fox Glacier Valley now restored
All guided walks on the Fox Glacier are fully operational again thanks to the swift response of the Department of Conservation and the NZ Transport Agency.
The power of nature disrupted access to the glacier last weekend as a rainstorm
Fox Glacier Guiding CEO Rob Jewell said guiding operations were now back to normal with the complete schedule of half day and full day guided walks on offer.
“We were delighted with the rapid response from the authorities. Key personnel were in the area and planning a fix very quickly.  By Monday (1st December) roading contractors were on site working to rebuild the access to one of New Zealand’s best known tourism features.”
Access over the glacier road was limited to Fox Glacier Guiding vehicles only while roading crews worked to rebuild the road.
“Now is a truly magnificent time to visit the glacier. Nature is at its full potential.”
