Fun Day Out Planned at Tutira Country Park
The Tutira Country Park Open Day will be held on Sunday 30 November from 11am to 3pm and, with the long range weather
forecast looking good, there will plenty for all the family to enjoy.
Hawke's Bay Regional Council’s celebration of 10 years of the ownership of the Country Park 40 minutes drive north of
Napier will be a leisurely, family affair. The event also marks the start of the 150th Anniversary of Hawke’s Bay.
Event organiser Anita Murrell says things are looking good for a fun day in the country.
“Tutira Country Park has developed a lot in the last 10 years so there’s lots for people to explore, and other
organisations have had an important role in the local area so they will be there to showcase their attractions too –
should be a fun time,” she said.
Mrs Murrell says that the free buses the Council have put on are already fully booked from Napier and Hastings.
Free buses will also take people out on excursions to the Guthrie Smith Arboretum, Pan Pac Kiwi Creche at Lake Opouahi
and Boundary Stream.
Visitors will be able to take a leisurely wander to the historic woolshed where Tutira School will sell tea, coffee and
refreshments. There will also be maps of the park tracks to help people who want to go on a self guided walk, some of
which are more strenuous.
There will be fly fishing lessons with Fish & Game and the Napier Freshwater Anglers’ Club plus all day activities for the kids which will include The Incredible
Department of Conservation Environmental Obstacle Course, where they can check out if they have what it takes to be a
park ranger.
More FM radio station will be there to keep things bubbling along with face painting, spot prizes and a sausage sizzle.
