American Embassy Celebrates Thanksgiving with Downtown Community Ministry
Roast turkey and pumpkin pie are the order of the day as Downtown Community Ministry hosts a special Thanksgiving lunch next Wednesday, 26th.
Generously supported by the American Embassy, the lunch will celebrate the spirit of Thanksgiving and will be held at Wesley Methodist Church on Taranaki St beginning at 12 noon. Over 120 service users of DCM and other community agencies are expected to attend. Ambassador William McCormick will carve the turkey and address those gathered about the meaning of Thanksgiving.
DCM Director Stephanie McIntyre says, “It’s great to once again work with the US Embassy and offer a festive meal for our clients. There was an amazing response to last year’s lunch so we’re really looking forward to it”.
Wesley Methodist Church on Taranaki St has kindly donated the use of its kitchen and hall and a superb coalition of chefs, led by Glenn Curphey of the Wellington Branch of the NZ Chef Association, are generously giving their time to prepare the feast.
Great effort is being made to create an authentic Thanksgiving experience. The lunch will include traditional Thanksgiving favourites such as roast turkey, cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie.
