No Rules: Rediscovering Embroidery Exhibition
No Rules: Rediscovering Embroidery, opened on 14 November and will run till 20 December, featuring Rosie White; renowned
New Zealand artist and Whitireia graduate.
The exhibition aims to uncover a range of embroiderers' work that challenges preconceptions about basic stitch, with a
selection from 18 makers who have broken free of convention, or redirected it in unexpected ways. Personal directions,
exploration in re-discovering the world of stitch, reclaiming it, and opening it to new possibilities, are all strong
themes of the exhibition.
Rosie White is one of the New Zealand artists whose work will feature in this exhibition. White currently resides in
Wadestown and graduated from Whitireia in 2006 with a Bachelor in Applied Arts and an Introduction to Digital
Publishing. She has also attended the Aotearoa Textile Forum hosted by Whitireia in 2007 and 2008. Rosie has an interest
in expressing issues surrounding special needs learning for children and also perspectives on domesticity.
“Rosie is a textile arts practitioner with a steadily growing reputation for contemporary exhibition practice and is a
passionate advocate for broadening textiles practice in NZ” says Whitireia Visual Arts tutor, Deb Donnelly.
The exhibition is taking place from 15 November – 20 December at Auckland’s Objectspace in Ponsonby.
