Environment enthusiasts sought for advisory group
Wellington's Environmental Reference Group, which advises the Council on the management of the city's natural
environment and environmental policies, is looking for more members.
The group wants to involve a wide range of people to look into issues such as climate change, biodiversity, reducing
solid and liquid waste, and sustainable use of energy and water.
The Council’s Environment Portfolio Leader, Councillor Celia Wade-Brown, says people with knowledge and experience in
these areas are needed to maintain the group's expertise as it has been undergoing a natural turnover of membership.
"Many Wellingtonians have a real passion for our city’s environment. People who already have good links to local
environmental initiatives should consider putting themselves forward. We won’t be selecting members to represent
organisations, but because of their enthusiasm and knowledge about environmental issues," she says.
The Environmental Reference Group meets about every two months and is also consulted by email from time to time.
Membership is voluntary but a small meeting attendance fee is paid. If you would like to be part of the group, or if
your organisation wants to recommend someone, send a nomination email or letter to the Council. Nominations should
include contact details and a short profile with information about:
qualifications, technical expertise or work experience in the environment field
knowledge of local opportunities and priorities in Wellington
enthusiasm for environmental issues and involvement in practical initiatives in the home, workplace or community
ability to access community or professional networks.

emailed to Sharon.bennett@wcc.govt.nz
The closing date for nominations is 5pm, Monday 22 December. The current Environmental Reference Group members will help
decide who is invited to join the group.
