Man Arrested For Aggravated Burglary

A 20-year-old man is under arrest this morning (Thursday, November 13) after an elderly woman was assaulted in her Palmerston North home.
Police received reports of screaming around 1.55am and on investigation found a 99-year-old woman at a house in Rangiora Avenue who had been subjected to an assault.
She was taken to Palmerston North Hospital with arm and leg injuries. She is still being medically assessed so the exact detail of her injuries is still unknown, but her condition has been described as comfortable.
A 20-year-old Palmerston North man was arrested a short time after the incident and will be interviewed this morning.
Police would like to hear from anyone in the Rangiora Avenue area who may have heard or seen anything suspicious late last night or early this morning that may be relevant to this investigation.
Det Senior Sergeant Craig Sheridan said: "Thankfully incidents of this kind are incredibly rare and hopefully it is reassuring to the community that we have made an early arrest."
