Guy Fawke’s fireworks to thrill !
Taupo residents will experience the excitement, sights and feel of a massive fireworks display right in front of them for the Starlight Cinema Fireworks Spectacular at Owen Delany Park this Friday.
The region can thank local businessman Peter Smith for sponsoring the fireworks display. “I want to see Taupo families enjoy a great Guy Fawke’s fireworks display that is safe, accessible and affordable to everyone.” says the Starlight Cinema owner. “It’s going to be the biggest display mounted in the region.”
The Public Dreams Fireworks Team from Hastings is producing the Guy Fawke’s show. “We’re thrilled Peter has invited us back this year”, says pyrotechnician Te Rangi Huata, “And we want it to be memorable”
“We’ve added new effects to the show and the finale will be loud, fast and furious ”, Te Rangi said.
Prior to the display the fireworks team will spend up to ten hours calculating the height of the effects, the timing of fuses and matching the effects to the music. The show will be fired from three sites spread 50 metres apart to create a panorama of effects across the skyline.
“We’re using great music behind this show”, said Te Rangi, “From movie soundtracks “Mamma Mia” and “Madagascar 2” to Miley Cyrus’ “See You Again” and Steppenwolf’s classic hit “Born To Be Wild”.
“There’s something about fireworks that brings enjoyment to people like nothing else,” Te Rangi says. “Even today, in this world of technology, it’s still one of the basic forms of enjoyment that’s timeless, it appeals to people of all ages and builds camaraderie”
The Starlight Cinema Fireworks Spectacular is organised by the Men at Work Trust led by Dennis Bethel..
Dennis wants neighbours near Owen Dalany Park to keep their cats and dogs indoors with all windows, doors and curtains closed. Horse owners are advised to move their animals indoors or 2klms away from the display.
Visitors are invited to dress warm, bring beach chairs and arrive early for a good viewing spot. Hot food and drinks are on site. Entry is by gold coin. Gates open at 5.00pmon Friday 7 November, entertainment starts at 6pm and the fireworks display is scheduled for just on dark around 9.00pm. Rain date is Saturday 8 November.
