Hauraki Cultural Festival.
The annual Hauraki Cultural Festival marks its 35th anniversary on October 31 and November 1 with Manaia Marae and Te
Kura O Manaia hosting it for the first time.
Project manager Riana Manuel said Manaia was honoured to host the festival.
"We're really looking forward to seeing whanau from all over the motu arrive and enjoy a spectacular two days of kapa
haka, kai and mahi toi," she said.
The event is rich in history engaging not only Hauraki whanaui in the art of kapa haka but also takes in performing
teams from all over Aotearoa.
The event starts with an official powhiri at Manaia Marae at 8am. The groups will then move to Te Kura O Manaia where
the festival itself is.
"This event is happening in Manaia whether it rains or shines. There's plenty of shelter if it does rain," she said.
"This a family-friendly event and we encourage everyone to come and enjoy in the splendour of our mokopuna, tamariki and
rangatahi as they wow our crowds.
"There will be plenty of wonderful kai to enjoy including some the local delicacies. Be prepared for your some real
enjoyment."
Ms Manuel said excellent sponsorship meant the event could go ahead.
"This event is auahi kore (smoke free) and kaipiro kore (alcohol free)."
