Heavy winds on the way
The Auckland Region Emergency Management Office reminds Aucklanders to stay up-to-date with weather forecasts over the
next 24 hours.
Today the MetService issued a Severe Weather Warning that there could be northwest gales on Tuesday in parts of Auckland
between about noon and 7pm.
This could result in strong winds and rain in local areas that may have the potential to uproot trees, blow off roofs,
and bring down power lines.
The Auckland Region Emergency Management Office advises people to be prepared for bad weather.
Regional Civil Defence Controller, Harry O’Rourke, says Aucklander’s can minimise the effects of the weather by
following a few simple steps.
“This is a good opportunity to check your survival kit and make sure you have a torch and battery powered radio ready in
case the power goes out. People need to have a plan and know how to contact each other.’’
• Check you roof for loose material that could blow around and be dangerous in strong winds.
• Boaties are recommended to check their moorings.
• Take care driving.
• Stay up-date with the weather situation by listening to your radio, watching the TV or on the internet.
