Christchurch City Council
1st October 2008
eDay comes to Christchurch
Christchurch residents will get the opportunity to take part in eDay for the first time on Saturday 4th October.
eDay is a free event which allows people to recycle their old computer equipment and mobile phones in an
environmentally-friendly way. eDay was started in Wellington in 2006, and this year will be rolled out to 32 different
centres around the country.
It’s hoped that this year’s event will divert 1,000 tonnes of potentially toxic waste from landfills, as well as raising
awareness about the impact of dumping electronic waste in landfills and the benefits of recycling.
In Christchurch eDay will be run by the not-for profit trust CANZ (Computer Access NZ Trust), with support for the event
from the Christchurch City Council, Eliza’s Manor on Bealey, Insite Technology Limited, The Papanui Club and The
Computer Broker.
The main collection site in Christchurch will be at The Papanui Club, 310 Sawyers Arms Road from 9am to 3pm. Smaller
collection sites will be operating at Aranui High School and Van Asch Deaf Education Centre in Sumner. eDay is open only
to cars, and businesses and schools are advised to visit www.eday.org.nz for alternate disposal options and more
information about e-waste.
Only computer equipment and mobile phones can be accepted on eDay. Items such as televisions, radios, stereos, video
recorders and other home appliances will not be accepted.
Anyone who is interested in volunteering on the day can find out more information at www.eday.org.nz.
