A special Anika Moa performance
Music lovers will have the chance to see Kiwi favourite Anika Moa live in concert on 24 October in a very special ‘one night only’ ASB JazzFest Queenstown performance at Queenstown Memorial Hall.
One of New Zealand’s most accomplished and best-selling artists of this decade, Anika Moa will demonstrate her talent and versatility with the backing of the Frank Gibson Quartet, led by New Zealand’s foremost drummer Frank Gibson.
Festival Director Harvey Maguire says to expect a very special performance.
“People will be able to see Anika Moa in a context they’ve never seen her before.  The versatility and depth of her talent is astounding as she crosses music genres effortlessly.
“I saw her perform a set at our launch function in Auckland recently and she blew me away.  For her concert in Queenstown we’re creating an intimate jazz club atmosphere so that people can enjoy an up close and personal experience.”
Mr Maguire adds that the calibre of the supporting musicians is outstanding and will make for a great night.
“The Frank Gibson Quartet is the perfect complement to Anika Moa.  Frank in particular is renowned in the international jazz community for his wonderful feel, outstanding technique, empathy and versatility across all musical genres.  In fact, he’s teaching a drumming master class at the festival which is open to people of all ages and skill levels.”
The concert opens at 7.30pm to the Latino and groove jazz rhythms of jazz fusion exponents 'Subject2change'.
Festival tickets can be purchased online through www.asbjazzfest.co.nz, by calling TicketDirect on 03 450 9110 or 0800 224 224 or at Queenstown i-Site (corner of Shotover and Camp streets).
