New Stadium Model
A model of the new Otago Stadium will shortly go on public display showing the latest designs for the new multipurpose
venue and surrounding developments.
Stadium Development Director Darren Burden said the physical model gave a fantastic sense of the space and volume of the
facility which paper plans could not easily convey.
“Once people see the model in three dimensions they get a clear sense of just how good it will be.
Located in a fantastic harbour setting, the model shows what an impressive venue it is.
“The model shows how the different components of the Stadium fit together – the stands; the overarching roof enclosing
all spectator seating and the pitch, and; the player and lounge facilities.
“It also shows how the Stadium relates both to the new University buildings on the Stadium site, the open plaza and car
parks, and to the wider environs of Logan Park, the Water of Leith, harbour and realigned State Highway 88.
“It is an exciting and important guide for the general public as well as for sponsors and members to visualise what’s in
store when the Stadium is completed,” said Mr Burden.
The new model will be displayed at locations open to the public over the coming months. At a 1 to 300 scale, it includes
all the key features and surrounding locations:
• The full roof with ETFE panels
• The main south stand with corporate lounges, player and media facilities
• Proposed University buildings adjacent to the Stadium
• Open plaza with pedestrian and recreational areas in front of the Stadium
• Car parking
• State Highway 88
• Logan Park
• Water of Leith.
The new model is shown in full event mode to seat 30,500 fans. The model can also be dismantled into sections so that
the various components can be viewed more readily.
