Christchurch Firm Wins Major Award
Christchurch firm Morgan+Pollard Landscapes has won a swag of prestigious awards, including ‘Landscape of the Year’, for
a high-profile inner city garden.
The Dyslexia Discovery Centre in Worcester Boulevard was described by judges as their unanimous choice for landscape of
the year, saying it embodies everything they look for in this important competition.
“Nationwide there were many fine gardens entered, but this was exceptional in its design, construction and its choice of
plant material and in its central feature, the fountain,” they say.
As well as the top award, judges also awarded the garden premier prizes for being the best commercial project, best
water feature; gold medals for water feature, landscape design, landscape construction and landscape horticulture;
silver medal for landscape maintenance.
Judges of the best commercial project section comment on the Dyslexia Awareness Exhibit being a wonderful addition to
the many attractions of downtown Christchurch and say “amongst all of the magnificent buildings, trees and riverscapes,
it holds its own as a real eye catcher. It has served its commercial and
educational purposes with finesse and self-confidence.”
Morgan+Pollard Group managing director Roger Pollard describes the work as an interactive sculpture garden and says the
awards are a tribute to the creative abilities of the people involved.
“This is an extraordinarily beautiful garden in an urban landscape that offers an incredible insight into the dyslexic
mind and the creative energy within,” he says.
