Cyclists and motorists: watch out for slips
Cyclists and motorists are warned to take care on roads around Wellington City due to multiple slips that have come down following rain overnight
Multiple landslips have been reported across the city – one which has partially buried a parked car in Durham Street, Aro Valley.
Other large slips have been reported on the Makara Hill Road and in Kelburn, Vogeltown, Johnsonville, Northland, Karori and on Onslow Road.
City Council contractors are working flat-out to clear roads blocked by mud, rubble and vegetation.
The Council warns motorists – and especially cyclists - to take extra care because many small rockfalls have also occurred on roads around the city.
Due to the fact contractors are focusing on the big slips first, it is possible small amounts of rubble may remain on the side of some roads in isolated areas and could present a danger particularly for cyclists.
