Fox Glacier: Aircraft Crash

At 1248hrs on the 5th of September 2008 Fire, Police and Ambulance were notified that a Cessna light aircraft had crashed near the airport at Fox Glacier.
On the arrival of emergency services two of the occupants had managed to climb out of the aircraft. The pilot was trapped in the plane for a short time until he was extracted by emergency services personnel.
The three people involved in the crash were taken by ambulance service to Greymouth hospital for treatment. It is believed that the injuries are not life threatening.
The Civil Aviation Authority was notified and will be sending a crash investigator to the scene. Police will guard the scene until their arrival.
