Business Against the Stadium
Stop the Stadium has been confidentially informed that a group of business people recently tried to buy one of the leaseholds needed for the proposed Awatea Street stadium.
They were unsuccessful but their aim was to stop the stadium calculating that 10% of $1m would be less than the increase in rates they would have to pay if the stadium went ahead. Members of the group wish to remain anonymous to protect their business interests but have authorised Stop the Stadium to release this information to highlight their concerns.
We are doing so to underline the point that business people are concerned about the potential negative impacts of the stadium project and that they feel the need to remain anonymous. So far from uniting the community the project is dividing it.
