Fatal Bus crash

Incident type: Fatal Bus crash
After an extensive investigation by Police after a fatal Tour Bus crash on State Highway 6 at Charleston (south of Westport) on 2nd February 2008, the driver has been charged.
The bus, carrying 17 overseas tourists, left the road and rolled down a bank killing a 62 year old United Kingdom National and injuring a number of others from different countries.
The 37 year old Auckland based driver faces two charges,
One of 'Careless Driving Causing Death' and another of 'Careless Driving Causing Injury'.
He has been summoned to appear in the Westport District Court on the 18th September 2008.
