MEDIA RELEASE
Update Road Slip Causes Water Outage In Manukau
Update 3.30 p.m.
Customers who require water urgently can get water from water tankers that are roaming the affected area and that are
based at the Redoubt Road entry to Totara Park and at the Pony Club on Redoubt Road. They are advised to take a
container to collect this water.
The slip has closed one lane of Redoubt Road and motorists are advised to take care.
Full repair of the pipeline is expected by 9pm with work on the site already underway.
The original release on this incident is below.
Manukau City (15 August 2008) – Due to a major road slip, there has been a localised water outage in the Manukau Water
Limited water network.
The water outage has occurred after a major road slip on Redoubt Road. This has caused a breakage in a pipe servicing an
estimated 3,000 customers in an area bordered by Hill Road, Thomas Road, Murphys Road, and McQuoids Rd through to
Gracechurch Drive.
Manukau Water Limited customers in this area will be without water, as the slip has taken away a 100 metre section of
pipe servicing the area.
Manukau Water Limited is already working to repair its network, but it could take up to 10 hours to restore a full
service.
In the meantime, the company has mobilised 10 water tankers to the area and is also distributing bottled water in the
area.
Any customers of Manukau Water Limited who have specific concerns or who urgently need water can call the company on 09
2628989.
The company is working urgently to repair the damage and will also look at alternative ways of delivering water through
its network in the affected area.
As the water service is restored, customers are urged to check that their taps are flowing clearly before using the
water. If there is a discolouration in the water the tap should be run until it is flowing clearly. Any discoloured
water should not be used for drinking unless it is boiled.
The company will update on its website any further news on this outage.
