Judging of HB Environmental Awards entries underway
Judging of the Hawke’s Bay Environmental Awards is underway.
Councillors from the three supporting Councils are visiting around 30 entries which come from all parts of the region, from as north as Waikaremoana to south in Waipukurau.
The judges are - Napier City Councillors Dave Pipe and Bill Dalton, Hawke's Bay Regional Councillors Ewan McGregor and Liz Remmerswaal, and Hastings District Councillors Rod Heaps and Anne Wilson.
“It is really pleasing to see entries coming from such a wide spectrum of environmental initiatives, and from people and organisations right across the region,” said Cr Dave Pipe, who chairs the Environmental Award working group.
A higher than normal number of entries were received this year, which from a judging perspective is interesting, says Cr Pipe.
“People are really passionate about their work and they are coming up with really innovative ideas to enhance the environment and to educate other people. From pre-schoolers to business people, from native tree planting to computer software, this year we have them all. The judging is a fascinating process.”
The winners will be announced at the awards ceremony on Friday 17 October at the HB Opera House, Hastings, which is a free community event.
