Public asked for views on Sumner Foreshore
The foreshore from Monck’s Bay round to Scarborough is a year-round recreation area popular with locals, Christchurch
residents and visitors to the city.
Council staff are preparing a master plan for the future of this important area of the city, looking at a range of
options on how best to protect, preserve and enhance its features.
The first step in the process has been the preparation of a discussion paper raising a number of possible options for
future development. People are being asked to give their views on these and to highlight what is important to them. A
master plan reflecting these responses will then be prepared.
Planner David Sissons says “At this stage we are asking people to comment on the issues. We need them to tell us what
they think is important and where they would like to see resources best used. There are no proposals and nothing has yet
been decided. We are just asking questions which we would like people to answer.’’
A leaflet summarising the main points of the discussion paper can be picked up at Service centres and the Civic Offices
in Tuam Street. It is also available on the Council website at www.ccc.govt.nz
Two drop in sessions will be held at the Sumner Community Centre in Wakefield Avenue on Sunday 17 August and 31 August
between 11am and 3pm. Council staff will be on hand to discuss issues There will be copies of the leaflet and the
discussion paper as well as posters giving a visual perspective of some of the issues.
Consultation began on 1 August and responses must be received by 8 September.
