Water supply limited in Akaroa and Takamatua
Residents in Akaroa will need to conserve water over the next 48 hours after a major leak in a pipe connected to the local reservoir.
The reservoir which supplies water to Akaroa is very low on water after a large quantity was lost due to a burst pipe.
The burst pipe was located in a ford which was running very high due to the heavy rain, and this meant the damage to the pipe was not immediately noticed.
The leak has now been located and sealed off. Council reticulation staff are monitoring water levels in the reservoir and will reassess the situation later today.
Water supplies are also limited in Takamatua, near Akaroa. A large amount of rain has fallen into the catchment which supplies water to the area and this has affected the quality of the intake water. Supplies in the reservoir are now limited.
People in Takamatua will also need to conserve water for the next 48 hours.
For information of the water supply residents can contact the Christchurch City Council call centre on 0800 800 169 or 03 941 8666.
