Flooding across Hastings District
Hastings District Emergency Management Office is asking people to be careful when driving through the district as there is surface flooding on some roads.
State Highway 50 at Roy’s Hill, State Highway 2 at Poukawa Road and some parts of Te Mata Road are all experiencing surface flooding. State Highway 2 opposite the Guthrie Smith Centre is closed due to a land slip.
Mike Maguire, Civil Defence Emergency Management Controller for Hastings District, said it was important people kept their movements to a minimum until the situation improved.
“People should stay indoors and keep their travelling to a minimum. Unnecessary vehicle movements through the areas of flooding will only add to the problem. This is a good day to stay home,” said Mr Maguire.
Maraekakaho School is currently being evacuated with most of the students already moved out of the school. Puketapu School is closed for the day.
The Napier/Taihape Road is closed due to strong winds.
Updates will be issued as information comes to hand
