New Zealand Police Alert 12:00pm 23 Jul 2008 Wellington
Location of incident: Pukerua Bay
Incident type: Care required
Police are advising motorists along Centennial Highway (State Highway One between Pukerua Bay and Paekakariki) to exercise extreme care in the next 2 hours. A storm swell will coincide with a high tide at 1pm and is already causing waves to crash onto the sea walls and the road in some areas.
The waves are throwing some driftwood and other debris onto the road and motorists are advised to defer travel in the area for 2 or 3 hours if possible.
Roading contractors are aware of the situation and are taking steps to clear the road as soon as possible.
