Chief Executive remuneration review results
Wellington City Council’s Performance Review Committee has completed its annual review of the performance of Council Chief Executive Garry Poole.
Mr Poole has been with the Council since 1998 and last year was reappointed for a further five year term.
Mayor Kerry Prendergast says when making its decision, the Council’s Performance Review Committee took into account the complexities of the role, Mr Poole’s performance, the realities of the job market (with particular emphasis on local and central government), and the Council’s responsibilities as a good employer.
“Accordingly the Committee decided to increase Mr Poole’s remuneration from $366,200 to $387,256 per annum, an increase of 5.75 percent.   This is a total package, with no bonuses.”
Mayor Prendergast says the increase reflects Mr Poole’s continued excellent performance over the past year.
“He has continued to serve both the organisation and city well at a time when we, like many local authorities, are facing significant challenges around increasing costs and demand for our services and major issues like climate change and rising oil prices.
“These challenges mean we have to fundamentally change the way in which we work in some areas, and we are lucky to have someone of Mr Poole’s calibre, skill and professionalism to guide us through those changes.
“His performance is critical to the successful operation of the Council – an organisation that employs more than 1500 people and manages $6 billion worth of city assets.”
The Performance Review Committee is comprised of the Mayor and four City Councillors, with an independent advisor.
