New Zealand Police Alert 1:00pm 2 Jul 2008 Bay of Plenty
Location of incident: Tauranga
Incident type: Operations Burd and Crawford
Police investigating the murders of Darryl Crawford and William TAIKATO in Tauranga in 2007 have received information leading to the identification of a site of interest to the enquiry.
The site is in a rural location approximately 30 kilometres from the Tauranga CBD and is within 5 kilometres of where Mr Crawford's vehicle was located in August 2007.
Enquiry head Detective Inspector Rob Jones of Tauranga said that an assessment of the site had begun utilising Police staff and specialists from outside the area.
It is anticipated that the preliminary examination will assist in identifying a smaller search area which will then be the subject of a more detailed forensic examination.
Family members of both men have been told of the latest information and are being kept updated.
Tauranga Police are still seeking information about the two homicides. Anyone having such information is asked to contact Police on 07 577 4300 or 0800 SPEAKUP.
