Design competition for new Botanic Gardens Visitor Centre
New Zealand architects are being invited to take part in a design
competition for Christchurch's new Botanic Gardens' visitor and staff
facility.
The Christchurch City Council is inviting Expressions of interest from
this Monday (30 June) from registered architects and architectural or
engineering firms to design the new $8 million facility.
To be built along the river bank on the northern boundary of the
Gardens, the new centre will provide information facilities for visitors
to the Gardens as well as new staff facilities, says Council Transport
and Greenspace Manager Alan Beuzenberg.
Expressions of interest close on Friday 18 July at noon.
An assessment panel of elected members, Council staff and industry
experts, headed by and independent architect, will assess the
registrations of interest, selecting up to six architects to complete
concept designs and detailed costings.
"The competition will run from mid August to October, the winner
expected to be announced in December."
He says it is proposed the new Centre will be built and opened for the
150th anniversary of the Botanic Gardens in 2013.
