Police Investigate Suspicious Mail

Wellington Police is investigating three similar incidents in the last 24 hours in which Government addresses have
received suspicious mail.
One suspicious letter was received at the Reserve Bank this morning. It follows similar postal deliveries yesterday to
MAF and Parliament Buildings.
Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Borrell, Wellington CIB, said he believes the three deliveries are linked as in each case
the sender inferred that the items contained 1080, a poison used in pest eradication.
He said the substance is being sent to the ESR for analysis. The envelopes are also being analysed by fingerprint and
document examination staff as part of the forensic focus.
"I'm unable for investigative reasons to disclose any further information about the items except to say that we're
determined to identify the sender."
Detective Senior Sergeant Borrell said staff at each of the three agencies had done the right thing, and followed their
standard operating procedures to alert police and emergency services.
