Scam Complaints In Canterbury
New Zealand Police Canterbury News Release 12 June 2008
In the last week Police have received a number of calls recently from people who have been recipients of a scam.
This scam involves a phone call from a person claiming to represent an Australian travel company. Discounts and prizes are offered by the caller on the proviso that bank account details or credit card numbers are supplied.
At this stage Police are not aware of anyone who has actually furnished their account details to the caller.
"We feel it is a timely to remind members of the public not to disclose personal banking information over the phone to any person, this scam is another example of trading on peoples good will or naivety" says Acting Detective Sergeant Rayne of the Fraud Squad Christchurch.
