Swap and exchange table at the next Project Twin Streams Henderson Creek Community Planting day.
It’s not just about the plants at Project Twin Streams Henderson Creek’s community planting day on 21 June 2008 - it’s also about community sustainability.
Project Twin Streams Henderson is doing its bit to help the local community deal with the current rises in food prices by having a Swap & Exchange table at its next community planting day
The event is being is being held at Chilcott Brae, access off Central Park Drive or  Chilcott  Road, 11am-1pm, and the community are encouraged to bring along any produce, preserves or baking to place on the table.
Wendy Claire, Project Twin Streams Henderson Creek Coordinator explains the idea, “No money exchanges hand, it’s a case of put something down and take something away. In these times of spiraling food prices, it is increasingly hard for families to make ends meet. To stretch the food budget we are encouraging the community to bring any spare produce from their fruit trees, vegetables from their gardens, a bunch of herbs, jars of jam or pickles, or a batch of muffins and then exchange it for something they fancy from the table.”
The planting day celebrates Matariki - the Maori New Year - and will feature live music, face painting a children’s art activity and a barbecue to finish.
This is the second 2008 planting day for Project Twin Streams Henderson Creek - over 1,500 trees were planted by the community at the first planting day in May.
Waitakere City Council receives funding from the Auckland Regional Council to undertake Project Twin Streams.
