Hawke's Bay Street Wins Excellence Award
Traffic improvements on Charles Street, Hastings have just won an Ingenium Award for excellence in public infrastructure.
Charles Street was upgraded in 2007 to create a pedestrian friendly environment adjacent a large supermarket on one side of the road and a new car park, petrol station and liquor store on the other.
MWH managed the work on behalf of Foodstuffs and Hastings District Council. MWH project manager, Derek Bensemann, says ?this project was a great example of the public and private sector working together to make a real difference to the local community.
The project included major traffic calming, upgraded street lighting together with soft and hard landscaping all combined with a new road layout and car park construction around the Pak ?n? Save supermarket. It took twelve weeks to complete, in time for the busy shopping period of Christmas 2007.
The project was awarded the Ingenium Excellence Award in the under $1 million category at the Ingenium Conference held in Gisborne on June 7. Ingenium Awards are yearly national excellence awards which celebrate the best in public infrastructure development.
