Manukau Mayor’s condition remains stable
The condition of Len Brown, Mayor of Manukau, remains stable today, following a heart attack on Saturday night.
Mr Brown’s condition has been described by medical professionals at Auckland Hospital as critical, but he remains stable and has shown encouraging signs of improvement.
Mayoress Shirley Anne (Shan) Inglis said today that she and her family are immensely grateful for the medical assistance that is being provided.
“Len is an extremely hard worker, he always has been. Since his election as Mayor of Manukau he has attended many functions and meetings as part of his commitment to serving the city, but even before that, as a lawyer, he worked long hours.
“However Len is also an extremely intelligent and sensible man. He knew his limitations. This has been a huge shock to us all as Len has been in very good health and thoroughly enjoying his role as mayor.”
Ms Inglis says the Brown family has been overwhelmed with the outpouring of concern, support and prayers from the community.
“It has been humbling to know so many people care about Len’s health and they, as much as the family, have been keeping vigil while we wait for Len’s condition to improve.
“We are very appreciative of the best wishes that we have received, and want to thank everyone for kind thoughts.”
Acting mayor Gary Troup says Manukau City Council continues to support the Brown family and advises that anyone wishing to send messages of support and comfort are welcome to drop them off at the council reception, Civic Building, Wiri Station Road, at Manukau libraries or post to Manukau City Council, Private Bag 76917, Manukau city, Attention Brown Family.
