Stunt earns rebuke for Evans
Kapiti Coast District’s Mayor Jenny Rowan says she is disappointed by the insensitivity and lack of respect for the institution of the Council and disregard for community feelings which Paraparaumu-Raumati Community Board member Dale Evans showed by his wearing of a mock Ku Kux Klan uniform to the Council meeting yesterday.`
Dale has a unique style and he is passionate about causes but I believe his behaviour yesterday was offensive and the Council and the wider community have the right to expect an apology from Mr Evans,” Mayor Rowan said.
“I defend his right to freedom of expression but with that freedom comes responsibilities which always have consequences. We have been very patient with Mr Evans but he has now crossed the line.
“This is not the first time he has brought the proceedings of this District Council and his Community Board into disrepute.
“I think he needs to decide if he wants to be a stunt man or an elected representative who works constructively with others.
“I will be speaking to Mr Evans about the appropriateness of his actions and about his position on the Community Board and as an elected member of this District.
“He needs to consider his position,” Mayor Rowan said.
