Save money with early registration
Auckland City Council is urging dog owners to take advantage of special early rates, and register their dogs before 1 August to avoid extra costs.
Dog registration packs are being sent out over the next two weeks to more than 19,000 owners who have current dog owner licences. If details provided on the registration form are correct owners can also visit www.aucklandcity.govt.nz/dogs to pay online.
A superannuitant rate has also been introduced this year. A superannuitant that registers their dog before 1 August will pay $42. After 1 August they will be charged $62, which is the same rate an owner who holds a dog owner licence and has a de-sexed dog can expect to pay.
“All dog owners can be fined $300 if their dog is unregistered. Registration is an important part of being a responsible owner,” says animal contracts manager Clare Connell.
“If people register their dogs on time, the officers can focus more on education and dealing with problem dogs and owners, rather than following up late payers.”
Auckland City currently has 100 per cent of known dogs registered.
“This is a fantastic statistic, one which we are wanting to replicate again in the coming registration year,” says Mc Connell.
New or unregistered dog owners should call 379 2020 to receive a registration form, or visit www.aucklandcity.govt.nz/dogs for more information.
