Police Seek Dangerous Offender
New Zealand Police National News Release
25 May 2008
Auckland City Police are urgently seeking the whereabouts of a 29 year-old man considered extremely dangerous and who should not be approached by members of the public.
Andre Charles Port abducted a 41 year-old woman in Kingsland at about 11 o'clock this morning, made her drive him to a country road in Muriwai and assaulted and threatened her with a knife before she managed to escape from her car and seek help from local residents.
Port is now in possession of her car - a white Hyundai Getz with the registration number EDR70 - and is armed with a knife. He is on probation and was released from Mt Eden's Auckland Central Remand Prison on February 21 this year after serving time for a range of violence offences and breaches of his probation conditions.
Detective Sergeant Mark Franich of the Auckland CIB says Port should - for his and the safety of others - make contact with Police.
"If anyone has seen the car he 's travelling in since 11 o'clock this morning or knows where he is, they should call 111 immediately," Mr Franich said.
Port is Caucasian and has short hair.
