Elderly Assault Victim Dies
New Zealand Police National News Release
20 May 2008
The death this morning of a 61 year-old Onehunga man who was assaulted at a bus stop in the Royal Oak suburb of Auckland
has sparked a homicide investigation.
The man, Graham Wallace Arcus, died in Auckland Hospital at 6.45 this morning after injuries received at about 9.20pm on
Saturday evening at the Watchman's Lane bus stop on Manukau Rd proved fatal.
Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Cramer of Glen Innes CIB says it appears Mr Arcus was assaulted by a man as he walked
past a group of young men at the bus stop.
"Police and ambulance services were called and Mr Arcus was taken to hospital for observation and as a precautionary
measure," Mr Cramer said.
"Sadly - for everyone involved - he died this morning and what was a serious assault investigation has become a homicide
investigation.
"While we have spoken to and are aware of a number of witnesses to the assault on Manukau Rd, we'd very much like to
hear from anyone who thinks they might have some information for us about Mr Arcus's movements before he was punched to
the ground and events subsequent to that."
Information can be called into Auckland Central Police Station - ph 09 302 6400 - and will be forwarded onto the Glen
Innes CIB for evaluation.
