No paper collection for some streets this week
Paperchase has advised Auckland City Council that it cannot carry out its full kerbside paper and cardboard collection this week due to a shortage of collection vehicles.
Over 50 per cent of streets may not be serviced until Paperchase can overcome its vehicle shortage.
The collection service is provided free by Paperchase, a Carter Holt company, which delivers the materials to the company’s mills for recycling. It is not a council service.
If households and businesses that rely on Paperchase collections find their collections have not occurred as usual, they should remove the paper and cardboard from the kerbside, store it on their property and put it out for collection the following week.
“This is beyond the control of the council and we ask residents and businesses to store their uncollected paper and cardboard in a dry place on their properties until the next collection day,” said Michael McQuillan, group manager of Environmental and Utility Management.
“We are hopeful that Paperchase will resume its full collection service shortly The council’s new recycling service, which starts on 30 June, will see 14 brand new vehicles on the road,” he said.
Mr McQuillan appealed to residents not to place paper and card in the weekly rubbish bin.
Further information is available from Paperchase by phoning 0800 732 925.
