North Shore City gears up for Body Art Awards 08
The esoteric, ethereal and other world creatures are returning to the cat walk at the North Shore Events Centre for the third annual NZ Body Art Awards.
Judged as the best emerging event in 2006 and now in only its third year, North Shore City Council is proud to announce its ongoing support for this growing national arts event.
North Shore City's events, tourism and city promotions manager, Jennah Wootten, would like to see the event evolve to become a flagship arts event for North Shore City.
"The NZ Body Art Awards is a unique and exciting event and our support of the initiative demonstrates our city's commitment to supporting innovative and creative events," says Ms Wootten.
NZ Body Art Awards creator, Mem Bourke, says the event serves to showcase, acknowledge and promote the many talented and hardworking New Zealanders practising the various complimentary art forms.
"It's our mission is to promote New Zealand as a centre of expertise in body art, make-up and special effects to local and international film and television production networks," says Ms Bourke.
Five times Oscar award winner, Richard Taylor of Weta Workshop is back on the judging panel again and says he is delighted to again be involved in this exciting event.
"I'm honoured to be back at this event and am looking forward to meeting the artists and being a judge at the awards," says Mr Taylor.
"Mem has a fantastic rapport with local artists and is deeply passionate about the art form and that comes through making this event the fantastic event that it is".
The awards feature nine categories, including airbrush, hand painting, prosthetics, masquerade, tribal and fluorescent illusion.
The theme for this year's event is jungle and audience members are encouraged to come dressed in their interpretation of the theme.
Participants will win spot prizes throughout the evening, with the winner snapping up a holiday get-away in a Kea Campervan courtesy of Kea.
The event takes place on Saturday, June 14, 2008, at the North Shore Events Centre in Glenfield, North Shore City, starting at 7.30pm.
Tickets are available from Ticketec and range from $30 for general admission or student tickets.
The NZ Body Art Foundation was established to support the education of New Zealand's special effects artists and promote their talents to a global audience.
All money raised from the event will go towards education funding, as well as promotion and advancement of the industry within New Zealand.
