Hundreds of Aucklanders Run 4 Mums on Mother’s Day
Hundreds of Aucklanders will beat a path through Cornwall Park this Sunday to celebrate Mother’s Day and support
reproductive research. The inaugural Run 4 Mums event is the brainchild of The Nurture Foundation, a charity raising
funds for research into conception and pregnancy problems.
The Nurture Foundation supports research into reproductive issues such as infertility, miscarriage, stillbirth, and
serious pregnancy complications. They are problems that touch the hearts of thousands of New Zealanders – particularly
on Mother’s Day.
- One in six couples experiences infertility
- One in four pregnancies ends in miscarriage
- One in five first time mothers is at risk of serious pregnancy complications
- More than 600 NZ babies are stillborn or die within 28 days of birth each year
Through research, Nurture aims to find new ways to predict and prevent reproductive problems and improve treatments so
that more New Zealand couples can celebrate having the opportunity to nurture a child or their own on Mother’s Day - and
every day of the year.
The Nurture Foundation invites all families to pack a picnic, bring the kids and come down to One Tree Hill Domain on
Sunday May 11th. For a small registration fee they can take part in a 5km fun walk or a timed run (5km or 10km) through
Cornwall Park. It’s not too late to enter – last minute registrations will be accepted on the day. There will be music,
children’s entertainment and spot prizes including the chance to win a ride with the Mitsubishi rally team’s star
driver, Chris West.
Supported by founding partners New Idea and Andrew Simms Mitsubishi, Run 4 Mums is a great way for families to celebrate
the joys of motherhood on mum’s special day.
