Hard working family celebrate no more budget brands after $4.2 m win
A hard working kiwi family have realised their Big Wednesday dream and are celebrating never having to check a supermarket price again.
The family, who wish to remain anonymous, were in the Napier area and made a stop for groceries.
"We had heard that Andrew Spence Pharmacy in Napier was a lucky Lotto store, so we also decided to get our usual Big Wednesday and Lotto tickets for the week.
"We are not big spenders as we don't have much spare cash and just usually buy the minimum four lines at a time. But this time our $4 spend paid off with a $4.2 million dollar win!
"It will be great not having to check the prices on supermarket aisles anymore. And no more budget brands for me," the husband said.
The winning wife says she found out her handbag held a winning ticket, when she checked the numbers online a few days after the 23 April draw.
"I went numb. It did not seem real. In fact it still seems a dream and I can't stop shaking. I immediately rang my husband after I found out and he did not believe it either.
"When I told my mother we had won Big Wednesday she just said "That's nice dear" so I don't think she really knew what was happening either!
"We have school aged children, so our first priority is looking after their futures. It will be great to know that they can now go on to further studies without worrying about the bills. And we will be able to help out their children, if they have any," she said.
Andrew Spence, from Napier's Andrew Spence Pharmacy, says it feels fantastic to have sold the winning ticket.
"We got a huge buzz from selling a $12 million Powerball winning ticket nearly three years ago and thought it was an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, so it is great to have sold another big prize so soon," he said.
The winners won a total prize package worth $4,247,140 which is made up of $2 million, an Aston Martin V8 Vantage; an Audi Q7, a$250,000 American Express Platinum card, $250,000 worth of first class travel, a Rayglass Legend 2500 boat, a $500,000 holiday home package and a $750,000 apartment package.
This is the fourth time Big Wednesday First Division has been won this year the last time the jackpot was struck was on 12 March 2008 when a lucky player from Auckland won a $5.2 million jackpot.
