Police Incident type: Robbery - Marathon Man
A man is helping police with their enquiries after a threatening note was presented to a teller at the NZ Post office in Dominion Road, Mt Eden this morning.
A man seen running from the scene was followed and chased around the area for almost half an hour before being apprehended on a property on Sandringham Road. At one stage the man boarded a bus in an attempt to evade his pursuers. The police helicopter, Eagle, was involved from an early stage, directing ground staff to cordons to contain the fleeing man.
Detectives are at the scene of the robbery interviewing witnesses and the man has been taken to Auckland City Hospital for a precautionary check-up, complaining of exhaustion.
