Mayor welcomes new state-of-the-art factory to Manukau.
Intermech’s new state-of-the-art factory in Highbrook Business Park shows Manukau is a great place for companies which export, Manukau Mayor Len Brown says.
The purpose-built facility was officially opened by Prime Minister Helen Clark on April 18.
“Despite current hard times for exporters with our high dollar and interest rates, it’s great to see Intermech’s parent company Atlas Copco Group showing confidence in Manukau and New Zealand,” says Mr Brown.
“The compressed natural gas technology products made by Intermech in Manukau are sold in 22 overseas markets. In fact, the output from the Highbrook factory is 100 percent exported.
“Our city is an ideal location for companies which export. We are close to Auckland International Airport and have road and rail links to ports.
“The opening confirms Manukau’s attractiveness as a manufacturing centre and an excellent place to do business.
Mr Brown says he’s delighted Intermech’s Reseach and Development department will be based at Highbrook.
“Companies which hope to succeed in tough export markets need a strong commitment to R to stay ahead of the game. We need more companies developing innovative high value products for overseas markets.”
The new Highbrook factory will see much faster and more efficient production than was possible at Intermech’s old site in Penrose.
